The use of char cloth, also known as char paper dates, back to at least the 16th century. Char cloth was used to catch a spark from flint and steel. When the spark landed on the fabric, it would create a slow-burning ember. The ember would be placed in a tinder nest. After blowing into the nest, it would then ignite into a flame. Our char cloth is made of 100% cotton material and comes in 4 rolls measuring approximately 1 inch x 11 inches. Also, it pairs great with our flint and still kit, and our burning glass kit.
