By the 18th century, the sales of playing cards in America were so profitable, they were specifically targeted by the Stamp Act of 1765. George Washington often played the card game "Whist" for money, yet in 1777 at Morristown, he recognized the dangers of his men gambling. So, he issued a General Order forbidding all officers and soldiers from playing cards, dice, or any other game of chance. Some popular games of the period were Whist, Lotto, Cribbage, and Pope Joan, varieties of which are still played today.

Our deck of Playing Cards includes 52 cards and comes in a muslin bag.
