Cribbage was adapted from the game called Nobby in the 1600's by a man named Sir John Suckling. During his time, Suckling was known as the greatest card player in England. Legend has it that Suckling sent packs of marked cards as gifts to other nobility across England. He then toured the country teaching cribbage to those whom he had gifted trick decks to, and "winning" about £20,000 from them. In the 18th century, cribbage was a popular game among British sailors and officers. The game was often played on long voyages and was an essential part of life on board a ship. Our Cribbage set comes with a board made from poplar wood measuring 11 3/4" x 3". It also comes with a deck of 18th century replica playing cards, four pegs and a set of gaming rules.
