The use of flint and steel as a fire starter dates back to the Iron Age. This was the primary way of starting a fire in the civilized world up until the invention of the matchstick. During the fur trade period, flint and steel were among the many items traded to the Native Americans.
This set comes with a steel striker, a chunk of flint, a cloth carrying bag, 10 pieces of char cloth measuring approximately 1in x 1in, and detailed instructions on the art of fire making. *Tin not included.
