Gunflints were used on flintlock muskets, rifles, and pistols primarily in the mid-17th to mid-19th centuries.  By 1850 they were replaced by percussion caps. Gun flints were made of various types of rocks during the 18th century. Our gun flints are made from French Amber. In the 18th century, France had the highest reputation for producing the best and most sought-after gun flints of all those available.
