Tompions (also known as tampions) were used by both long hunters and soldiers to keep snow, rain, and/or mud out of their gun barrels. Our wooden tompions are made of cherry wood and finished with boiled linseed oil. They measure 2 3/4" long overall. The shaft is 2" long and the head is 3/4". They have slots cut into the shaft to allow the tompion to fit snugly in the barrel, but still be able to pull it out if the wood swells. We offer topions for the Brown Bess and the Charleville Musket. We also do custom sizes.

**WARNING**: We strongly suggest that you only use this product on an unloaded weapon. Accidental or intentional firing of a weapon with this product in the end of it may result in serious injury or death. Tanawha Trading Post and Caleb Miller are not liable for any injury or death caused by the use of this product.
If you select the custom option please specify caliber of your weapon so we can make the tompion fit snugly into the end of your personal weapon. If more then one tompion is purchased please provide measurements for each barrel.
Note: some final fitting may be needed, such as a little sanding. Sometimes the tompion may fit tight and need to be sanded. Wood does swell and shrink, depending on the humidity. If the tompion fits loose, a wooden tooth pick inserted in the end will open the tompion to make it fit snug.
